Rehearsals

The rehearsals of the Amsterdams Jeugd Muziektheater take place weekly on Wednesday afternoons and Friday evening in the WG-terrein in Amsterdam Oud-West. 

Explanation groups

The AJM will work with two separate groups for the first time in the 2024-2025 school year. In group A there will be children from group 6 and in group B there will be children from groups 7 and 8. Only the children from group B will play in the performance at the end of the school year. It is possible that children from group 6 will be cast for a role in the performance. They will then transfer to group B. If they want to participate in both group A and group B, an appropriate price will be agreed.

Group A

The children in group 6 rehearse on Friday evening from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This group will start on January 10, 2025. The focus is mainly on training the disciplines of singing, acting and dance. This group is a preparatory year for the performance of group B. The children from group A will contribute to the performance of group B through video and sound recordings. We also offer the opportunity to participate in part of the performance. This is not mandatory.

The academic year will conclude at the end of the school year by means of a presentation that is open to an outside audience. Here the children can show what they have learned over the past year.

Group B

The children in groups 7 and 8 rehearse on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. This group will start on November 6, 2024. At the beginning of the year the focus will be on personal development, group bond and training in the disciplines of singing, acting and dance. It is possible that elements of the performance are already being worked on. In the second semester all time will be spent developing the performance. Certain children may need more or less rehearsal based on how they plan to study the material.

It is possible that additional singing and acting rehearsals will be planned for the major roles. These will take place on Friday evening from 7:00 PM till 8:00 PM.

If children have the ambition and discipline to put more work and time into the performance, we can discuss the possibilities in consultation. Please before the division of roles. It would be nice if the student had already thought about how to fulfil this extra task.

Planning

We work with a rehearsal schedule that is planned at least one month in advance. This way the children have an idea of ​​what is expected of them and what they need to know for a particular rehearsal.

It is possible that you may need to attend fewer or no rehearsals at certain rehearsals. This gives you as a family space to take time off when there is an opportunity. If you are scheduled, you are expected to be present.

This planning only applies to group B. Group A will in principle work with the entire group during the rehearsal time.

What do you need:

You make sure that you have your belongings with you at every rehearsal. What you are expected to bring:

• Folder (with or without holes, for song lyrics, game lyrics, assignments, information, script and other material)
• Pencil and eraser (for taking notes. You can attach this to the folder so that you always have it with you.)
  
• Water bottle
• Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.
  
• Lax Vox tube

Lax Vox

The Lax Vox method will also be used during the choir and singing rehearsals. Ideally, a Lax Vox tube is used. You can purchase this yourself or it will be purchased for you. The costs for this are €5. Contact us if interested. 

It is also possible to perform the exercises with an Air Up bottle. However, a Lax Vox tube is preferred. The costs for this are also much lower than those of an Air Up bottle.

Performances

During performances we will perform with both group B and group A. It is possible that a joint (extra) rehearsal will be planned for this.
